Award-winner: Innovative, odour-reducing rubbish bags

23.09.2015

At long last the rubbish will not smell any more – thanks to the new rubbish bag “frisch & sauber” (fresh & clean). Instead of disguising unpleasant smells with a scented additive, these bags neutralize odours as soon as the offending item is placed in the bin. This innovative product from the South German company Quickpack Haushalt und Hygiene GmbH (based in Renningen) received the top IAW Trendseller Product Award, which was presented to the company today at the International Trade Fair for Retail Promotions and Imports (IAW) in Cologne, Germany.

Due to the use of a chemical additive the bin liner is able to eliminate bad smells. Its efficacy has been confirmed by independent product tests. The polyethylene bag is much stronger in the low pressure range than conventional rubbish bags and is also waterproof and especially tear-resistent. “Furthermore, it is recycleable and is groundwater-neutral if disposed in landfill sites”, stressed the product managers Torsten Ohls and Dirk Obschinsky. The bags are currently available in the standard 25 and 35 litre sizes. By the end of the year, a 50 litre bag should also be on offer.

This apparently mundane product proved an easy choice for the jury selecting the winners of the IAW Trendseller Award. “We were immediately convinced that this product offered an effective solution to an age-old problem without being significantly more expensive than the standard alternatives. It offers a unique selling point. Consequently, we feel it has great sales potential”, said the chairman of the jury Ulrich Eggert, the marketing expert from Cologne. Second prize went to the Wireless Control home automation set made by Smartwares Safety & Lighting GmbH in Arnsberg. Its winning feature was explained by jury member and TV presenter Ralf Kühler as follows: “It not only facilitates the remote control of household devices via the householder’s smart phone – it also allows energy-saving networked control in individually configured usage scenarios.” For more information: www.smartwares.de

The jury allocated third prize to the 3D glasses “COOL 360 VR” from Krüger & Gregoriades GmbH in Hamburg. The folding cardboard glasses feature an integrated smart phone holder. The product allows users to experience virtual reality applications comfortably and relatively cheaply. Explaining the decision, jury member and trade fair organizer Ulrich Zimmermann said: “We were impressed by the recommended price of 12.99 euros. The manufacturer has addressed the digital trend and made virtual reality accessible to virtually all consumers.” For more information: www.kg-hamburg.de

The International Trade Fair for Retail Promotions and Imports (IAW) will be showcasing the latest trend-setting products until Thursday 24 September. More than 300 exhibitors from 23 countries are presenting seasonal products for impulse sales as well as mass-selling products designed to boost revenue in brick and mortar outlets as well as online shops.
